We
are particularly enthusiastic about keeping players in the game and
supporting the development of the sport overall – in particular the low
goal polo community.
SAPA also serves as a
fundraising vehicle with the provision of an annual grant to assist
SUPA in its ongoing funding of polo in schools and universities
throughout the UK and to help the continued development of polo as a
curriculum sport in the UK.
The launch of an Alumni Polo Association heralded a new era for The Schools and Universities Polo Association, Ltd (SUPA) its Alumni players who have come together and formed the School’s Alumni Polo Association, Ltd. (SAPA). This amateur polo association was formed to organise and promote polo amongst SUPA alumni and former Pony Club players. SAPA also serves as a fundraising vehicle with a provision of its annual revenues granted to assist SUPA in its ongoing funding of polo in schools and universities throughout the UK and to help the continued development of polo as a curriculum sport in the UK. SAPA, Ltd. and its members maintain an affiliation with SUPA, Ltd both of which are member associations of the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA).
SAPA supports the interests of those players no longer involved in SUPA and provides opportunities for its members to enjoy amateur polo after they have left School or University within a similar infrastructure of SUPA. Annual Subscription benefits of SAPA include limited and bespoke personal accident as well as the HPA Public Liability insurance policies, UK and International tournaments and SUPA Recognized Training and SAPA Workshops; and partnerships with regional clubs for the provision of practices and opportunities around the UK. Lycetts serves as the founding sponsor of SAPA and offer members the insurance benefits beyond the sport for all risks.
Charles Betz, Chairman of SUPA, Mike Hobday, Head of SUPA Universities Polo, and Lucy Northmore formed this association in order to keep players in the game, provide a social venue for the sport and to assist in the development of the sport overall – in particular the amateur polo community.
Charles Betz, commented: “SUPA is proud to foster this new affiliated organisation. SAPA has the potential to ensure alumni polo players can continue their enjoyment of polo and also generate public support for the next generation of SUPA members.” SAPA is committed to the development of the sport and the needs of the low goal polo community.
